  1. One of the best ways to clean the inside of a microwave is to use a cloth dampened with warm water, vinegar, and baking soda to wipe away the hardened gunk stuck to the walls.  Use of these simple kitchen ingredients will eliminate the chance that any harmful chemicals will linger following cleaning.

  2. One way to remove mold from the grout in your shower without using toxic chemicals is to mix ¼ cup vinegar, ½ cup baking soda, and 10 drops tea tree oil.  Apply the paste to the corners of the shower and any moldy areas.  Let the mixture sit for a couple of minutes and then scrub off the mold with a sponge or an old toothbrush for hard-to-reach areas.

  3. When cooking, rinse the dishes as the food cooks and set them aside in a sink full of warm water and soap.  This will reduce cleaning time later when you have to wash the dishes, preventing you from standing at the sink and scrubbing the dishes clean.

  4. Boiled water is a fast and effective way to clean tiled floors, especially if you want to avoid using chemical cleaners.  For a quick and easy house cleaning, simply pour boiled water directly on spots (be careful not to splash), and watch as the stain is instantly lifted.

  5. To reduce mold, mildew, soap, and hard water deposits from forming on your shower walls, spray your shower with a cleaning solution immediately after use.

  6. To remove olive oil from your carpet or upholstery, begin by first scraping off excess oil.  Next, sprinkle the stain with baking soda, cornstarch, or another stain absorber.  Let the absorbent stand for 10 to 15 minutes, and then vacuum the spot.  Using a clean dry cloth, sponge the stain with a dry cleaning solvent and then blot until the solvent is fully absorbed.  Repeat this process if the stain is still visible.

  7. To remove hot chocolate made with milk from carpeting, always use an enzyme-based laundry detergent when washing the stained item to remove the organic particles that can cause mold and mildew to grow.

  8. For ink stain removal from a leaking copy machine cartridge from fabric, begin by vacuuming or shaking off any loose ink.  Pretreat the stain with liquid laundry detergent, tamp the stain, and then launder the piece using cold water.
